Fintech startup Navi said to hire banks for ₹3,000 crore IPO

A famous fintech company started by a Flipkart co-founder is planning a massive public listing soon. This move could change how investors look at digital banking and lending businesses.

Sachin Bansal’s fintech firm, Navi Ltd, is getting ready to launch its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in India. An IPO (Initial Public Offering) is when a private company sells its shares to the general public for the first time to raise money. The company is reportedly planning to raise around ₹3,000 crore. This is a big step for the startup, which has become a major player in the digital finance space over the last few years.

To manage this big event, Navi has hired some of the biggest names in banking. They have appointed JM Financial, Kotak Mahindra Capital, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan as their advisors. These investment banks will help Navi navigate the complex rules of the stock market. The company is aiming for a total valuation of about $2 billion. Valuation is the total estimated worth of the company according to experts and the market.

Unlike many other startups, this IPO is expected to be a primary share sale. In a primary sale, the company issues new shares to raise money for its own growth. There will be no secondary offering, which means the current owners are not selling their personal shares to take cash out. This usually shows that the founders are confident about the future of the business. The company wants to file its official papers, known as a prospectus, by December.

This is not Navi’s first time trying to go public. Back in March 2022, they filed papers to raise ₹3,350 crore and even got approval from the market regulator. However, they decided to wait because the global market was not doing well at that time. Now, they feel the timing is better as many Indian companies are successfully listing on the stock exchange.

Navi is not just a simple app; it is a full financial services company. It offers many products like personal loans, home loans, mutual funds, health insurance, and UPI payments. Sachin Bansal started this venture after leaving Flipkart in 2018. Since then, it has grown by using technology to offer fast and easy financial products to Indian customers who find traditional banking too slow.

For Indian bankers and bank employees, this is an important trend to watch. Navi is part of a long list of financial firms like Muthoot Fincorp, InCred, and Hero FinCorp that are planning to go public soon. This shows that the Indian economy is hungry for more credit and financial services. It also means more competition for traditional banks as these fintechs get more capital to expand their reach.

Customers might see more aggressive marketing and new digital products as Navi tries to gain more market share before and after the listing. For those working in the banking sector, the success of this IPO will be a sign of how much investors trust digital-first lenders. All eyes are now on the December filing to see if the deal size or timing changes based on market conditions.
