PhonePe's Sameer Nigam unveils vision for next decade of financial inclusion at GFF 2026
PhonePe CEO Sameer Nigam shared a bold 10-year plan for digital growth at the Global Fintech Fest. The company aims to simplify credit and savings for every Indian using advanced AI technology.
PhonePe CEO Sameer Nigam spoke at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 to share his vision for the next ten years. He said that true progress happens when no one is left behind. The company is working with NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) to remove barriers like not having a smartphone or a bank account. PhonePe wants to make digital payments and savings available to everyone, from daily wage earners to big business owners.
To help people who do not have internet, PhonePe is pushing UPI 123Pay. This technology works on feature phones (basic mobile phones without touchscreens) using SMS or missed calls. So far, they have shipped over 8 lakh devices with this feature. They also launched UPI Circle, which lets a main account holder allow family members to spend money safely from their account. This helps make digital payments a habit for the whole household.
For Indian bankers, the most interesting part is the "Sachetization Philosophy." Just like small shampoo packets are cheap, PhonePe is making financial products tiny and affordable. They launched a "Daily FD" where users can start a Fixed Deposit with just Rs 100 a day. They also offer Gold and Mutual Fund SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans) for as low as Rs 10. This helps low-income workers save money every day without feeling the burden of a large amount.
Mr. Nigam also talked about credit (loans). He noted that traditional credit scores often ignore small sellers, like vegetable vendors, even if they have steady daily sales. PhonePe is now using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to check a merchant’s daily settlement history to give out loans. Their system can now disburse a loan in just 2.5 minutes. For new borrowers, they launched the "Wish Credit Card" which helps people build a credit score by starting with a small fixed deposit.
For merchants, PhonePe has updated its Business App. It now offers tools for local advertising and inventory planning. They also introduced "Smartpages," which lets businesses create payment pages in less than 10 minutes using AI. Another fun update is the use of AI-driven voice alerts for payment sounds, sometimes using celebrity voices to confirm when a customer has paid.
Finally, the company introduced PhonePe Pulse Pro. This is a data tool that tracks over 11 billion transactions every month. It provides very specific insights about business trends in small areas. This data will help both businesses and policymakers make better decisions for the Indian economy. Bank officers should watch these trends closely, as these micro-savings and instant loan models are changing how rural and semi-urban customers interact with banks.
