SBI eyes 14–15% credit growth as Setty highlights resilience
SBI Chairman CS Setty says banks and companies are better placed to handle another downturn. SBI is preparing for credit growth of 14–15%, with retail and SME lending expected to lead.
Setty highlighted the resilience of the Indian economy and SBI’s strong position within the financial system. His assessment points to banks and businesses entering a possible future slowdown from a stronger position. It is a view about their ability to cope with a downturn, rather than a prediction that one is about to begin.
The economic outlook presented in the report includes a growth forecast of 7.5%, alongside inflation moving in line with the Reserve Bank of India’s projections. The report does not specify the period covered by the growth forecast or give a separate inflation figure.
For SBI, the lending outlook centres on an expected 14–15% increase in credit. Retail borrowers and small and medium enterprises are identified as the main drivers. The report does not provide separate growth targets for these two segments, or say how much each is expected to contribute to the overall increase.
