Generali Central Insurance examining health insurance product that will link premiums to policyholder’s location

Generali Central Insurance is planning new products that link health costs to your city. They are also working on special protection for bank depositors against digital fraud and identity theft.

Generali Central Insurance Company is planning to change how insurance works in India. The company is a joint venture between the famous Generali Group from Italy and our very own Central Bank of India. The CEO, KG Krishnamoorthy Rao, recently shared details about new insurance products they are exploring to help modern customers and bank depositors.

One major change is a new health insurance product. Currently, most health insurance policies charge the same premium (the regular amount you pay to keep the policy active) no matter where you live. However, the company has noticed that hospital costs in a big city like Mumbai are much higher than in a smaller city like Nagpur. To fix this, they want to link the premium to the location of the policyholder.

Under this new plan, people living in expensive cities might pay a higher premium. Those in smaller towns would pay less. However, there is a catch. If a customer from a low-cost town goes to an expensive city for treatment, they might have to pay a 'co-payment.' This means the customer must pay a part of the hospital bill from their own pocket while the insurance covers the rest.

The company is also focusing heavily on cyber-related risks. As more Indians use mobile banking and UPI, online fraud is increasing. Generali Central is looking to launch covers for bank depositors. These products would protect people if they lose money due to unauthorized transactions or cyber-attacks on their bank accounts. This is great news for bank officers who often have to deal with worried customers facing digital fraud.

Another interesting product in the works is identity theft protection. Identity theft happens when someone steals your personal details to commit fraud. This is a big problem in many countries, and the CEO believes it is becoming a risk in India too. This insurance would help victims pay for legal fees or other costs needed to fix their records and restore their identity after a scam.

For bank staff, these developments are very important. Since Central Bank of India owns nearly 25 percent of this company, many bank branches will likely offer these products to their customers. Bankers should prepare to explain these location-based premiums and cyber-safety features to their clients soon. It helps the bank build trust by offering protection against modern digital crimes.

The CEO mentioned that the cyber insurance will have different levels. Customers can choose how much protection they want, and the premium will change based on that amount. This flexibility makes it easier for common people to buy insurance that fits their budget. It also helps the insurer align the price with the actual risk of the city or the digital habits of the user.

Moving forward, we should watch for the official launch dates of these products. Regulatory approvals from IRDAI (the insurance regulator) will be the next step. As banking and insurance become more digital, these 'new-age' policies will likely become the standard for the industry. It will change how we look at health costs and digital safety in the coming years.
