BharatPe unveils BharatPe Flex at Global Fintech Fest 2026, brings credit into everyday UPI payments
BharatPe has launched a new credit service called Flex during the Global Fintech Fest. This new feature allows users to spend on credit through their regular UPI app without cards.
BharatPe has officially launched BharatPe Flex at the Global Fintech Fest 2026. This new product is built on the NPCI's 'Credit Line on UPI' (a system that lets you borrow money through UPI instead of using a bank balance). The goal is to make borrowing money a regular part of daily digital payments for Indian customers.
BharatPe Flex offers eligible users a monthly credit limit of up to ₹60,000. The actual limit depends on the user’s credit profile (their history of paying back loans). Customers can use this money to pay any merchant, whether online or at a physical shop, using the same UPI QR codes they use every day.
The repayment terms are designed to be flexible for the borrower. Users can choose to pay back their total spent amount within 45 days. If they need more time, they can convert the bill into EMIs (Equated Monthly Installments) ranging from 3 to 12 months. This gives customers more control over their monthly budgets.
A key highlight of this launch is that it does not require a physical plastic card or a separate mobile app. The credit line works directly inside the existing BharatPe UPI app. By removing the need for a credit card, BharatPe is trying to simplify the lending process for the average Indian consumer who is already comfortable with UPI.
To promote this service, BharatPe has launched a new ad campaign featuring cricket star Rohit Sharma. The campaign explains that UPI and credit are no longer separate things. While UPI provides the familiar way to pay, the credit line provides the extra money when a user needs it. This marks a shift from traditional bank cards to digital-first lending.
Nalin Negi, the CEO of BharatPe, stated that the company wants to make formal credit more accessible. He emphasized that the focus remains on responsible usage and sustainable growth. This is important for bank officers to note, as the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) is closely watching how fintechs manage credit risks and digital lending practices.
For Indian bankers, this development shows how UPI is evolving beyond simple savings account transfers. As more fintechs use the NPCI infrastructure to offer loans, traditional banks may face more competition in the small-ticket personal loan segment. Bank staff should be aware that customers might start asking for credit lines on their UPI apps instead of applying for traditional credit cards.
BharatPe was founded in 2018 and has been a major player in the merchant payment space. They were the first to launch interoperable QR codes (codes that work with any payment app) with zero MDR (Merchant Discount Rate, which is the fee a shopkeeper pays to process a digital payment). This new move into consumer credit is their next big step in the Indian financial market.
