Axis Bank, Scapia launch no-fee travel credit card

Axis Bank and fintech firm Scapia have launched a new travel credit card for digital users. This card features no fees and offers rewards for international travelers and daily shoppers.

Axis Bank has teamed up with the travel fintech company Scapia to launch a new co-branded credit card. This product is designed for Indian travelers who prefer using digital apps for their banking needs. The most important feature is that the card has no joining fee and no annual fee. This makes it very attractive for customers who are careful about extra costs. The card is available on two networks: Mastercard and RuPay.

One of the biggest benefits of this card is the zero foreign exchange markup (this means the bank does not charge extra fees when you spend money in a foreign currency). Usually, banks charge 2% to 3.5% for international transactions, so this saves a lot of money for people traveling abroad. The card also gives users access to airport lounges and special dining deals. These features are usually only found on expensive premium cards.

Customers can manage everything through the Scapia mobile app. The app allows users to find new trips, plan their travel, and book flights or hotels directly. The card offers a reward system where users earn "Scapia Coins." You can get up to 20% rewards on travel bookings and 10% on regular daily spending through the app. These coins can be used later to pay for flights, hotel stays, or even visa fees.

For bank officers, this launch shows how Axis Bank is expanding its "co-branded" strategy (where a bank partners with a non-bank company to sell a card). Axis Bank Group Head Arnika Dixit said the goal is to mix payments with the entire travel experience. Instead of just being a payment tool, the card becomes part of the customer's travel planning. This helps the bank reach younger, tech-savvy customers who might not visit a physical branch.

Scapia is not new to the banking world. This is their third major partnership, having already worked with Federal Bank and BOBCARD. Scapia's CEO, Anil Goteti, mentioned that their users have already traveled to more than 175 countries. By partnering with a large private bank like Axis, they can now reach even more people across India. The card started onboarding new customers on September 3.

What should bank aspirants and staff watch for next? The success of this card will depend on how many people switch from traditional travel cards to this app-based model. If it does well, other banks might also remove their foreign exchange fees to stay competitive. It also shows that the RuPay network is becoming a strong choice for premium travel cards, which was previously a market dominated only by Visa and Mastercard. This move strengthens Axis Bank's position in the high-growth digital segment.
