HDFC Bank shares stabilised Friday, trading marginally lower at ₹693.15, down just 0.13 per cent on the NSE by afternoon, as buyers returned to slightly outnumber sellers for the first time this week. The relative calm follows back-to-back sessions of sharp declines driven by the media report of an internal leak investigation involving two senior executives.

The stock’s near-term focus now shifts to Monday, October 27, when Anup Bagchi formally assumes the role of Chief Executive, succeeding Sashidhar Jagdishan who is stepping down after six years. Bagchi, a veteran of the ICICI Group, takes charge amid an active internal probe, a leadership vacuum at the top, and a stock that has lost roughly 30 per cent year-to-date. Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha’s scheduled exit by December adds another variable to the transition.

In a grim coincidence of timing, today marks exactly one year since HDFC Bank’s 52-week high of ₹1,020.50, recorded on October 23, 2025. The stock currently trades at ₹693.15, representing a decline of nearly 32 per cent from that peak, and sits uncomfortably close to its 52-week low of ₹681.90 touched on September 11, 2026.

Buy orders accounted for 54.36 per cent of total quantity traded Friday, a reversal from Thursday’s seller-dominated session, though volumes at 108.46 lakh shares were notably lighter. The P/E ratio has compressed further to 13.36. Bank Nifty remained rangebound near 54,966, with resistance at 55,200 capping any meaningful recovery in the banking index. Whether Bagchi’s arrival next week provides a sentiment reset remains the key question heading into the weekend.
