ICICI Direct adds real-time auction price display to trading platforms
ICICI Direct has introduced a new feature to help investors track stock prices in real time during market closing. This tool aims to give traders more transparency before the final bell.
ICICI Direct, which is the retail brokerage arm of ICICI Securities and a subsidiary of ICICI Bank, has launched a new feature on its trading platforms. This tool shows the Indicative Equilibrium Price (IEP) in real time. The IEP helps investors see how stock prices are forming during the Closing Auction Session (CAS). This is the short period at the end of the trading day when the final price of a stock is decided. This new data is now visible on watchlists and charts for major indices like the Nifty and Sensex.
The Closing Auction Session was introduced by SEBI, the market regulator. Previously, the closing price was calculated using a volume-weighted average price (an average price based on the amount of trading done). Now, SEBI uses an auction method. This means all buy and sell orders from 3:15 pm onwards are put into one single pool to find the fair closing price. By showing the IEP, ICICI Direct allows its users to see the balance of demand and supply before the market actually shuts down.
This update is very important for derivatives traders. Derivatives are financial contracts like futures and options that get their value from an underlying stock. Since the IEP gives an early hint of the final settlement price, traders can better manage their positions. It helps them understand how their contracts will be valued at the end of the day. This reduces the surprise factor and helps in making better decisions during the final minutes of the market.
Ajay Saraf, who is the Executive Director at ICICI Securities, stated that this new display provides necessary transparency. He believes it will give clients more confidence to participate in the closing auction. For bank officers and wealth managers, this means they can provide better information to high-net-worth clients who are active in the stock market. It shows how technology is making the Indian stock market more open and fair for regular retail investors.
ICICI Direct has been around since May 1995. It serves many types of customers, including retail investors, big companies, and financial institutions. They offer services like trading, mutual funds, insurance, and wealth management. By adding this feature, they are following the broader trend in Indian exchanges to move toward more transparent, auction-based systems. This is especially useful for the derivatives segment, which sees a lot of volume in India.
For bank employees and aspirants, it is important to note how digital platforms are evolving. Banking and brokerage services are now focused on providing real-time data to retain customers. As a banker, understanding these tools helps when talking to customers about their investment portfolios. In the future, we can expect more brokerages to follow ICICI’s lead and add similar features to match SEBI’s guidelines on market transparency. This makes the Indian financial market more robust and modern.
