Cognizant goes live with Axis Bank’s AMS 2.0 application management services
Axis Bank and Cognizant have officially launched a major new technology program to upgrade the bank's digital systems. This five-year partnership aims to use smart automation to improve daily banking operations.
Axis Bank has taken a big step in its digital journey by going live with the 'AMS 2.0' program. This program is a partnership with IT giant Cognizant to handle Application Management Services (AMS). In simple terms, AMS means taking care of all the software and apps the bank uses every day to make sure they run without any problems.
This new partnership is set for a period of five years. During this time, Cognizant will manage the tech systems that power almost every part of the bank. This includes branch operations, credit cards, retail banking, wholesale banking, and treasury (the department that manages the bank's money and investments). It also covers core platforms, payments, finance, and accounting systems.
The main goal of AMS 2.0 is to make the bank's operations more resilient (strong enough to handle stress) and scalable (able to grow easily). A big part of this plan is automation. Instead of humans doing repetitive technical tasks, software will do them automatically. This helps in reducing errors and making sure the banking apps are stable for both staff and customers.
Avinash Raghavendra, who is the Group Head of IT and Retail Operations at Axis Bank, mentioned that this move is about building a better operations model. He noted that Cognizant worked very closely with the bank during the transition phase. The bank wants to use this new system to meet changing business needs and stay ahead in the technology race.
From Cognizant’s side, Ganesh Ayyar, President for Asia Pacific & Japan, said their teams are focused on disciplined service delivery. They want to use automation responsibly to make sure the bank's systems are always stable and efficient. This means less downtime for the bank's digital services and faster processing for various banking tasks.
For bank officers working at Axis Bank, this change is important. It means the backend systems you use for data, payments, and corporate banking should become faster and more reliable. When the software is managed better, there are fewer technical glitches that slow down work at the branch or head office levels. It also means the bank is preparing for a future where most work is driven by smart data platforms.
For customers, this partnership usually leads to a smoother experience. Whether it is using a credit card, making a payment, or checking an account online, the systems behind these actions will be more modern. As the bank adopts more automation through AMS 2.0, it can launch new features faster and solve technical complaints more quickly.
Looking ahead, the banking industry will watch how this five-year deal improves Axis Bank’s efficiency. Other Indian banks are also moving towards similar automated models to save costs and improve speed. The success of AMS 2.0 will show how well big banks can work with IT companies to modernize their old systems into high-tech digital machines.
