RBI Monetary Policy Meeting Outcomes and Decisions, RBI MPC Meeting August 2026 News & Live Updates: Follow here for the live updates and major highlights related to the latest bi-monthly RBI Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is a six-member body of the Reserve Bank of India, headed by the RBI Governor, that meets every two months to decide key policy rates such as the repo rate. Its primary mandate is to maintain price stability while supporting economic growth by keeping inflation within the target range of 2–6%.
In the ongoing August 2026 MPC meeting, the committee is widely expected to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% and retain the neutral stance. This cautious approach comes amid rising inflation (which crossed 4% in June) and ongoing global uncertainties, even as domestic growth remains reasonably resilient.
Here are the decisions taken in the last 9 RBI MPCs:
Feb 2025 — 6.25% — Neutral — Cut by 25 bps
Apr 2025 — 6.00% — Accommodative — Cut by 25 bps
Jun 2025 — 5.50% — Neutral — Cut by 50 bps
Dec 2025 — 5.25% — Neutral — Cut by 25 bps

Almost all of the 30 economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecast a hold on the repo rate. Only one outlier, Capital Economics’ Shilan Shah, is calling for a 25-basis-point increase. The neutral policy stance is also widely expected to be retained.
