Continental Securities plans fresh fund raise to grow Gold Loan, MF distribution businesses
A Rajasthan-based NBFC is planning to raise fresh funds and open new branches to expand its business. This move focuses on growing its gold loan portfolio and mutual fund distribution network.
Continental Securities, a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) registered with the RBI, is preparing for a major growth phase. The company plans to open more branches in Jaipur and raise new capital to fund its expansion. This strategy focuses on two main areas: giving gold loans and selling mutual funds to customers.
Gold loans are a key product for the company. These are secured loans where customers give gold as collateral (security) to get money. Currently, Continental Securities also offers MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) loans and mortgage loans. The company wants to use its new branch network to reach more borrowers who need quick cash against their gold ornaments.
The timing for this growth is very important. India’s gold loan market is booming right now. Experts estimate that the total gold loan money outstanding in the industry was around ₹19 lakh crore by the end of March. Because gold prices are high and people need credit, this sector is growing very fast for both banks and NBFCs.
Apart from lending, the company is focusing on its Mutual Fund distribution business. They have launched a digital platform called 'Smart Invest.' This allows customers to buy mutual fund schemes and track their portfolios (list of investments) online. The company has set a target to reach ₹100 crore in Assets Under Management (AUM), which is the total market value of all investments they manage for clients.
Continental Securities is also looking at other high-end finance areas. They are evaluating opportunities in Portfolio Management Services (PMS) and Alternative Investment Funds (AIF). These are special investment products usually meant for wealthy investors who want to put money into things other than regular stocks or bonds.
To pay for all these plans, the company is going to raise fresh money. They will do this by issuing equity shares or other securities that can be converted into shares. This follows a successful fundraise earlier this year. Between January and February 2026, the company raised ₹189 crore through preferential issues (selling shares to a select group of investors) to strengthen its capital base.
There have been changes at the top level of the company as well. Rajesh Khuteta has been re-designated as the Managing Director and Chairman. This leadership change will be confirmed during the 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28. A strong leadership team is essential for managing the proposed branch expansion in Jaipur.
For Indian bank officers and aspirants, this news shows how competitive the gold loan market is becoming. While traditional banks have a large share, NBFCs like Continental Securities are moving fast to grab local markets. Bankers should watch how these smaller players use digital tools like 'Smart Invest' to cross-sell investment products along with traditional loans.
